Two soldiers were hurt Tuesday night when a military helicopter crashed at a civilian airport in northeast San Diego County.

The two from the California Army National Guard were on a routine training mission when the UH-60 Blackhawk crashed at the end of the runway at Ramona Airport, officials said.

Both were able to escape from the helicopter, which landed on its side, according to Cal Fire. Their injuries were listed as minor, officials said, and they were treated at the scene by paramedics and then taken to a hospital for examination.

The helicopter suffered “significant damage,” according to the National Guard. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
