“Applications open through February 16!”
Join The Peak Force
With almost 700 sworn officers, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) offers opportunities and excitement for those who choose to serve our community of almost 470,000 diverse individuals. Our mild climate provides an average of 285 days of sunshine, 15 inches of rain, and 35 inches of snow annually.
The city is home to several large military installations which include Ft. Carson Army Base, Peterson and Schriever Air Force Bases, the United States Airforce Academy, and Norad.
Can you picture yourself sitting in your police car at the base of Pikes Peak while the sun rises in the east turning America’s Mountain a glistening orange and red? How about talking to tourists and travelers who have journeyed across the country to see the surreal rock formations at the Garden of the Gods Park? The city is minutes away from complete solitude in the mountains and nationally rated hiking trails yet less than an hour to professional sports teams in the city Denver. Colorado Springs has become the heart of the United States Olympic movement and is the home of the United States Olympic Training Center.
Colorado Springs is a year round sports paradise. It hosts the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, the World Arena Ice Hall, Colorado College hockey and lacrosse, the Minor League Sky Sox Baseball team, and the Switchback pro soccer team. A short drive to Denver and you can watch the Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Rockies, Colorado Avalanche, and the Colorado Rapids.
Since our humble beginnings in the late 1800’s, the CSPD has maintained a standard of excellence that you would be proud to join. As a Police Department, we embrace a proactive policing and Community Oriented Policing philosophy, rather than only crime response. We seek to understand and focus on why crimes are committed and find ways to remove the conditions that are most likely to lead to criminal activity. We expect our officers to exhibit this philosophy and actively create community and police partnerships that identify problem and craft solutions. Through a rigorous testing and qualification process, we ensure that only the most qualified individuals earn the right to wear our badge.
Upon being selected to be a police recruit with CSPD, you attend a 26 week, POST Certified, paid ($24.64/hour) police academy. The academy is an adult based learning environment where you go home at night and have weekends to do with as you please. Upon successful completion of the Police Academy and obtaining the required POST certification, you will be promoted to the rank of Police Officer and begin your journey on patrol with the department. After several years on patrol you may want to look at one of our many full time specialized units: K-9, Tactical Enforcement (SWAT), Computer Forensics, Major Accident Unit, Motorcycle Unit, Major Crimes, and Vice Narcotics and Investigations, just to name a few.
Do you have military training? Look at our Alternative Education Program where our academy has been accredited by Colorado State University Global (CSU Global). If you enroll in the program, CSU Global will give you 30+ semester hours upon the completion of our police academy. CSU Global will also look at your military training and help you find credits that you can put toward a degree. You may also be able to use your GI Bill while attending our academy!
