San Diego County Veteran of the Year nominations

The Veterans Museum at Balboa Park extends deadline for San Diego County Veteran of the Year nominations

SAN DIEGO –The Veterans Museum at Balboa Park is extending the nomination deadline for the 2018 San Diego County Veteran of the Year until midnight on Sunday, October 7.

There is a lot going on this time of year, it is a busy season! We know life can get hectic, therefore we are extending our deadline to ensure all veterans who deserve recognition, get the opportunity to turn in a VOY packet. All nominations must be submitted online by midnight.

Servitude to country and community are important to us at the VMBP. Each year we look forward to finding someone new who embodies a certain criteria of leadership. We will have the big reveal on November 9 at 11 AM at the Scottish Rite Center. It is difficult for our panel to choose just one Veteran of the Year. Their continued selfless servitude to their community and fellow Veterans is something that VMBP believes is important. Veterans add a great amount of value to any organization or business. Their work ethic, standards and attitude are always to be admired. Each year VMBP seeks to highlight these fine attributes by selecting an official Veteran of the Year, along with three other highly coveted awards.
Annually, there are four categories which individuals, organizations and businesses can be nominated in. These categories are as follows:

1.The San Diego County Veteran of the Year will represent the veteran community at special events, Padres games, parades and other military-related ceremonies.
2.The Will Hays Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual who has met the same criteria as San Diego County Veteran of the Year, and has continued to make these contributions for a minimum of 10 years.
3.San Diego Meritorious Support of Veterans Award recognizes one for-profit corporation that contributes, supports and serves active duty personnel and Veterans in San Diego County.
4.San Diego Veterans Allegiance Award recognizes one non-profit agency or organization that contributes, supports and serves active duty personnel and Veterans in San Diego County.

By extending our nomination deadline we hope to provide a deserving veteran with a little bit more time to get their nomination packet to our judges. To put out the extension, or set up an interview with a former Veteran of the Year, or members of the Veteran of the Year committee, please text or email our Communications Director, contact information above.
